Passing heavy vehicles — Wyoming Permit Test

Passing heavy vehicles on the Wyoming permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

When passing a heavy vehicle, keep a steady speed and make sure you can see both of its headlights and its entire cab in your rearview mirror before pulling back in.

A truck needs a long space to stop, and cutting in too soon then slowing leaves its driver no room.

Because it takes longer to pass a large vehicle, you should maintain a consistent speed when passing and be sure you can see both headlights and the entire cab of the truck in your rearview mirror before pulling back into your lane.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.57

Take a heavy vehicle's total length into account when passing; some rigs with double trailers can be as much as 100 feet long.

A long rig takes much more road to pass than a car, so you need far more clear space ahead.

Some can be as much as 100 feet long.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.57

Pass a truck with enough speed to avoid lingering in its blind spot, called the No-Zone; a car set only slightly faster than the truck stays where the driver cannot see it.

If something blocks the road, a truck driver who cannot see you may swerve right into your car.

Be sure to pass with sufficient speed to avoid loitering in the truck driver's blind spot (No-Zone) and simply taking too long to pass.

On the test

After passing a truck, when may you pull back into its lane?

When both headlights show in your mirror. A truck needs a long space to stop, and cutting in too soon then slowing leaves its driver no room. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.57: “Because it takes longer to pass a large vehicle, you should maintain a consistent speed when passing and be sure you can see both headlights and the entire cab of the truck in your rearview mirror before pulling back into your lane.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
