Proof of identity — Wyoming Permit Test
Proof of identity on the Wyoming permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A first-time Wyoming applicant must prove identity with a state-certified birth certificate, a valid U.S. passport or immigration documents.
A license is used everywhere as proof of who you are, so the state starts from a document that is hard to fake.
First-time applicants for a driver license or identification card must provide a state-certified birth certificate, a valid U.S. passport or immigration documents.
If your last name differs from your identity document, Wyoming requires proof of the name change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order.
The paper trail has to connect the name on your birth record to the name that will go on your license.
If the last name has changed from the verification document, then proof of name change is required, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order.
A Wyoming applicant must verify their Social Security number with a Social Security card, a W-2 form or a financial or banking statement showing the number.
Matching the number to a real record stops one person from getting licenses under several names.
Applicants also must be able to verify their Social Security number by presenting a Social Security card, W‑2 form or financial/banking statement that includes their Social Security number.
When a Wyoming licensee changes address, they must notify the department in writing within 10 days.
Court notices and renewal papers go to the address on file, so an old address means missing them.
When licensees change their addresses, they must notify the department in writing within 10 days of the change.
On the test
Which document proves identity for a first-time Wyoming applicant?
A valid U.S. passport. A license is used everywhere as proof of who you are, so the state starts from a document that is hard to fake. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.8: “First-time applicants for a driver license or identification card must provide a state-certified birth certificate, a valid U.S. passport or immigration documents.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
