Skid recovery — Wyoming Permit Test
Skid recovery on the Wyoming permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
In a skid, stop doing what started it: if you slammed on the brakes, ease up on them.
Locked wheels cannot steer, and letting the brakes off lets the tires roll and grip again.
If you slammed on the brakes, ease up on them.
If you skid because you accelerated too fast, ease up on the gas pedal and do not apply the brakes.
Braking during a power skid adds a second loss of grip to the first.
If you accelerated too fast, ease up on the gas pedal.
In a skid, steer to keep going straight down the road, and be careful not to oversteer.
Jerking the wheel too far swings the back of the car the other way and starts a second skid.
to keep going straight down the road.
With anti-lock (ABS) brakes in an emergency, press down hard on the brake pedal, hold it and steer; pumping the brakes or easing off turns the ABS off.
ABS pumps the brakes far faster than you can, but only while you keep steady pressure on the pedal.
All drivers need to do is press down hard on the brake pedal, hold it and steer out of danger.
On the test
If you skid after slamming on the brakes, what should you do?
Ease up on the brakes. Locked wheels cannot steer, and letting the brakes off lets the tires roll and grip again. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.81: “If you slammed on the brakes, ease up on them.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
