Traffic signals — Wyoming Permit Test

Traffic signals on the Wyoming permit test — 9 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

You may turn right at a red light, unless a sign prohibits it, only after stopping and yielding to persons and other vehicles.

Drivers with the green and people in the crosswalk have the right of way, so you go only after them.

You can turn right at a RED light unless there is a sign that prohibits the turn.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

After stopping and yielding, you may turn left at a red light from a one-way street onto a one-way street.

A one-way to one-way left crosses no oncoming lane, so it is as safe as a right on red.

You may also, after stopping and yielding, turn left from a one-way street onto a one-way street.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

At an amber light you must stop before entering the intersection if possible; if you cannot stop safely, carefully go through.

Amber means red is coming, and a sudden stop you cannot make may get you rear-ended.

If possible, you MUST stop before entering the intersection.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

At a green light you may enter when the way is clear, but you must yield to vehicles and persons already in the intersection.

A car or walker caught in the intersection when the light changed still needs to get out.

You MUST yield the right of way to other vehicles and persons already in the intersection.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

A flashing red light means you must come to a complete stop before entering the intersection; it has the same meaning as a stop sign.

Flashing red is used where a full stop is needed, often when a signal is not cycling.

This light has the same meaning as a “STOP” sign.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

A flashing amber light means use caution; it warns of a dangerous intersection or location.

It marks a spot where crashes are likely, so you slow and look even though you need not stop.

You must use caution. This light warns of a dangerous intersection or location.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

A red arrow prohibits turning in the direction of the arrow.

Traffic or people are crossing the path of that turn while the arrow is red.

A RED arrow prohibits turning in the direction of the arrow.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

An amber arrow may appear after a green arrow and warns you to clear the intersection.

The protected turn is ending, and oncoming traffic is about to get its green.

An AMBER arrow may appear after a GREEN arrow and warns you to clear the intersection.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97

A green arrow means you may turn in the direction shown without stopping if the way is clear, yielding to persons and traffic in the intersection.

The arrow protects your turn, but someone may still be finishing their crossing.

A GREEN arrow means that you may turn in the direction shown by the arrow without stopping if the way is clear.

On the test

When may you turn right at a red light?

After stopping and yielding, unless signed. Drivers with the green and people in the crosswalk have the right of way, so you go only after them. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.97: “You can turn right at a RED light unless there is a sign that prohibits the turn.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
