Turn signals and hand signals — Wyoming Permit Test
Turn signals and hand signals on the Wyoming permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
All drivers must signal when turning or changing lanes, at least 100 feet from an intersection.
Drivers behind need time to see your signal and slow down before you turn in front of them.
At least 100 feet from an intersection.
At higher speeds it is better to signal at least 4 to 5 seconds before you turn.
At speed, 100 feet goes by in about a second, which is not enough warning for the drivers behind.
Signaling at least 4 to 5 seconds BEFORE you wish to turn is better at higher speeds.
Hand and arm signals should be given with your left arm.
The left arm is the one out the driver's window, where drivers behind and around you can see it.
Signals should be given with your left arm.
To signal a right turn by hand, extend your hand and arm straight up from the elbow.
When your turn lights fail, other drivers must still be able to read where you are going.
For a right turn, the hand and arm are extended straight up from the elbow.
To signal a left turn by hand, extend your hand and arm straight out to the left.
A clear signal warns drivers behind that you will slow and cross the oncoming lanes.
For a left turn, the driver’s hand and arm are extended straight
To signal that you are slowing down or stopping by hand, extend your hand and arm down from the elbow.
Drivers behind cannot see your brake lights if they are out, and a sudden stop with no warning invites a rear-end crash.
To slow down or stop, the hand and arm are extended down from the elbow.
On the test
At least how far from an intersection must you signal a turn?
100 feet. Drivers behind need time to see your signal and slow down before you turn in front of them. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.51: “At least 100 feet from an intersection.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
