GDL sponsor — Delaware Permit Test
GDL sponsor on the Delaware permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Every Delaware GDL application must be signed by a sponsor, and the sponsor must sign it in front of a Division licensing employee.
A signature brought in from home could be forged by the teen who wants the permit.
The sponsor must sign the GDL applicant’s driver license application in the presence of a Division licensing employee.
In Delaware, the sponsor is held jointly liable with the GDL driver for any damages caused by the driver's negligence.
A sponsor with nothing at stake might sign for a teen who is not ready.
The sponsor is held jointly liable with the GDL applicant for any damages resulting from the GDL applicant's negligence.
The sponsor has final authority to decide whether the GDL driver is ready to drive, and decides who may supervise the GDL driver.
A teen could pick any older friend as a supervisor if no one were in charge of the choice.
The sponsor has the final authority to determine if the GDL applicant is capable of handling the responsibility of operating a motor vehicle and the authority to designate who may supervise the GDL driver.
A sponsor may withdraw their endorsement at any time until the minor turns 18, which cancels the GDL driver's privileges.
A parent who sees a teen driving recklessly would have no quick way to take the keys back by law.
The sponsor may withdraw their endorsement at any time until the minor reaches age 18 or the IEP GDL applicant has completed 12 months of the GDL program, thereby cancelling any valid driving privileges.
A step-parent cannot sponsor a GDL applicant unless the applicant has been adopted by them or they have been appointed guardian.
A step-parent with no legal tie could take on liability the law does not let them hold.
Step-parents cannot act as a sponsor unless the GDL applicant is adopted or appointed their guardian.
On the test
Where must the sponsor sign a GDL applicant's license application?
In front of a Division employee. A signature brought in from home could be forged by the teen who wants the permit. Delaware Driver Manual, p.29: “The sponsor must sign the GDL applicant’s driver license application in the presence of a Division licensing employee.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
