GDL supervising driver — Delaware Permit Test

GDL supervising driver on the Delaware permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A Level One permit holder's supervisor must be at least 25 years old.

A supervisor barely older than the teen may have no more judgment to offer than the driver does.

When the permit holder is under mandatory supervision, the supervisor must be a properly licensed parent, guardian or licensed driver (approved by the sponsor) who is at least 25 years of age and has held a Class D license for at least 5 years.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.29

A Level One permit holder's supervisor must have held a Class D license for at least 5 years.

A supervisor fresh from their own permit has not yet seen enough to warn a new driver.

When the permit holder is under mandatory supervision, the supervisor must be a properly licensed parent, guardian or licensed driver (approved by the sponsor) who is at least 25 years of age and has held a Class D license for at least 5 years.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.29

The supervising driver must sit beside the Level One permit holder in the front seat while the car is moving.

A supervisor in the back seat cannot see the road the way the driver does or reach the wheel.

The supervising driver must be seated beside the permit holder in the front seat of the vehicle when it is in motion.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.29

While a Level One permit holder drives under supervision, no one but the supervising driver may sit in the front seat.

A friend in the front seat crowds out the supervisor and pulls the driver's attention sideways.

No person other than the supervising driver can be in the front seat.

On the test

How old must the supervisor of a Delaware Level One permit holder be?

At least 25. A supervisor barely older than the teen may have no more judgment to offer than the driver does. Delaware Driver Manual, p.29: “When the permit holder is under mandatory supervision, the supervisor must be a properly licensed parent, guardian or licensed driver (approved by the sponsor) who is at least 25 years of age and has held a Class D license for at least 5 years.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
