Name and address change — Delaware Permit Test
Name and address change on the Delaware permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Within 30 days after legally changing your name, you must go in person to the DMV to change the name on your license or ID card.
A license under an old name may not match your insurance or the car's title after a stop or crash.
Within 30 days after legally changing your name, you must appear in person at the DMV to change the name on your driver license or identification card.
Delaware asks drivers to wait 48 hours after updating their name with the Social Security office before going to the DMV, so the two databases match.
A driver who goes the same day may be turned away because the records do not match yet.
Please allow 48 hours after updating your information with the Social Security office before reporting to the DMV to change your name on your driver license or identification card.
To change a name, a driver must bring the old license or ID card and all name change documents to the Division.
A driver without the papers that show the change has no way to prove the new name is theirs.
Please also bring to the Division your old driver license or identification card and all name change documents.
After changing your Delaware address, you have 30 days to notify both the Vehicle Registration and Driver License Sections of the DMV.
Notices about a suspension or a renewal go to the old address and never reach you.
After changing your Delaware address, you have 30 days to notify both the Vehicle Registration and Driver License Sections of the Division of Motor Vehicles.
On the test
How soon after a legal name change must you change the name on your Delaware license?
Within 30 days. A license under an old name may not match your insurance or the car's title after a stop or crash. Delaware Driver Manual, p.33: “Within 30 days after legally changing your name, you must appear in person at the DMV to change the name on your driver license or identification card.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
