Provisional license conditions — Georgia Permit Test
Provisional license conditions on the Georgia permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A Georgia Class D license holder may not drive between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., and the manual says there are no exceptions.
Those are the hours when the road is emptiest and the crashes are worst, so the state closes them.
A Class D license Holder may not drive between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
For the first six months after a Georgia Class D license is issued, only immediate family members may ride in the vehicle.
Passengers of your own age are the biggest single thing that raises a new driver’s crash risk.
During the first six months following issuance, only immediate family members may ride in the vehicle.
In the second six months a Georgia Class D license holder may carry one passenger under 21 who is not an immediate family member.
The limit rises one passenger at a time, because that is how the risk rises too.
During the second six months following issuance, only one passenger under 21 years of age who is not a member of the driver’s immediate family may ride in the vehicle
After the first and second six-month periods a Georgia Class D license holder may carry three passengers under 21 who are not immediate family.
Three is where the passenger limit stops rising, and it stays there until the full license.
After the first and second six-month periods, only three passengers under 21 years of age who are not members of the driver’s immediate family may ride in the vehicle
For the 12 months before applying for a Class C license, a Georgia Class D holder must be free of any conviction for a major traffic violation that carries a mandatory suspension.
A clean year is the last thing the graduated program asks for, and the clock restarts on a conviction.
A Class D license Holder must, for the 12 months preceding application for their Class C license, be free from any convictions for major traffic violations that result in the mandatory suspension of a driver's license.
On the test
When may a Georgia Class D license holder not drive at all?
Between midnight and 5 a.m.. Those are the hours when the road is emptiest and the crashes are worst, so the state closes them. Georgia Driver's Manual, p.66: “A Class D license Holder may not drive between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
Where these come from
Every rule here is checked against Georgia Driver's Manual, published by the Georgia Department of Driver Services, and against the state code itself. Last checked 2026-09-18.
