Driving record — Idaho Permit Test

Driving record on the Idaho permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

Your driving privileges can be suspended, canceled or revoked if you break certain laws or become a careless driver, even if you have never been issued a driver's license.

A record exists before the license does, and what is on it decides whether the license ever arrives.

even if you have not been issued a driver's license

The Idaho Transportation Department keeps a record of your crashes and moving violations, including those that happen in other states.

Crossing a state line does not leave a violation behind; it follows the driver home.

Idaho is a member of the Driver License Compact, an agreement among states to promote compliance with driving laws and administrative actions in member states.

The compact is what makes a conviction in one state count in another, which is most of why the record follows you.

Under the compact, serious offenses and minor moving violations are sent to a driver's home state, and action is taken as if the violation had happened there.

The home state applies its own penalty, so a citation collected on vacation is served at home.

If a licensed Idaho driver is convicted of a traffic offense in another state, the information is sent to Idaho and placed on their driving record, and a suspendable offense will be suspended by ITD.

The out-of-state court convicts, and the Idaho department is what takes the license.

On the test

Whose driving privileges can Idaho suspend?

A driver's, even if they have never been issued a license. A record exists before the license does, and what is on it decides whether the license ever arrives. July 2026 Idaho Driver's Handbook, p.122: “even if you have not been issued a driver's license”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
