Name and address change — Idaho Permit Test
Name and address change on the Idaho permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
To change the name shown on your license or ID card you apply for a duplicate, or make the change at renewal if you are eligible.
The name on the card has to match the name on the record, and a duplicate is how the card catches up.
you must apply for a duplicate or, if you are eligible, you may make the change as you renew your driver's license
Your name must be updated with the Social Security Administration before you apply for the duplicate.
The county checks the number against the federal record, and a name that does not match there fails the check.
your name must be updated with the Social Security Administration prior to applying for a duplicate
You must notify ITD within 30 days when your address changes.
The address is where a suspension notice is sent. One that never arrives is still served.
You must notify ITD within 30 days when your address changes
Your record must show your actual physical address, though a post office box or a rural route may be given as a mailing address.
Where you can be found and where mail reaches you are two different facts, and the record wants both.
Your record must show your actual physical address
To get a new address printed on the card itself you apply for a duplicate, unless you are eligible to renew.
Telling the department is one thing and changing the card is another; only the second costs a duplicate.
you will need to apply for a duplicate, unless you are eligible to renew the driver's license or ID card
On the test
How does an Idaho driver change the name shown on their license?
By applying for a duplicate, or changing it at renewal. The name on the card has to match the name on the record, and a duplicate is how the card catches up. July 2026 Idaho Driver's Handbook, p.29: “you must apply for a duplicate or, if you are eligible, you may make the change as you renew your driver's license”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
