Slow moving vehicles — Idaho Permit Test

Slow moving vehicles on the Idaho permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

Any vehicle traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic and delaying three or more other vehicles in a rural area or on a two-lane highway must turn off the road wherever it is safe to let them pass.

Three cars is where a line starts forming, and a line is where somebody decides to pass on a blind bend.

July 2026 Idaho Driver's Handbook, p.79

Slow-moving vehicles designed to travel no faster than 25 miles per hour may use public highways during daylight hours only, which is from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

After dark a vehicle doing 15 is almost invisible to a driver arriving at 55.

Daylight hours for a slow-moving vehicle means 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

The half hour either side is the twilight when shapes stop having edges, which is the worst light of the day.

Snow removal and farm equipment operated on non-interstate highways and fitted with flashing lights visible for 500 feet are excepted from the daylight restriction.

That work does not stop at dusk, so the exception is paid for with lights instead.

All slow-moving vehicles must have a foot brake, turn signals, and must display the approved slow-moving vehicle emblem.

The emblem is what tells an approaching driver, from a distance, that the gap is closing much faster than it looks.

On the test

How many vehicles must be delayed before a slow vehicle must pull off an Idaho two-lane highway?

Three or more. Three cars is where a line starts forming, and a line is where somebody decides to pass on a blind bend. How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
