Related DUI offenses — Illinois Permit Test
Related DUI offenses on the Illinois permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A driver may be charged with Aggravated DUI for a death or personal injury crash while under the influence, a third or later DUI, a DUI in a school bus with children or a vehicle for hire, or a DUI without a valid license, permit or insurance.
Aggravated DUI is the same drinking with worse circumstances around it. Any one of the listed facts is enough.
Are involved in a death or personal injury crash while driving under the influence. • Have received a third or subsequent DUI. • Committed DUI while driving a school bus with children or operating a vehicle for hire, such as a limousine. • Committed DUI without a valid driver’s license, permit, or vehicle insurance. • Received a DUI after a previous history of reckless homicide or Aggravated DUI involving a death.
It is illegal for anyone to drink alcoholic beverages in a vehicle, and both the driver and passengers may be ticketed.
The passenger holding the can is committing the offense too. That is what separates this from the DUI itself.
It is illegal for anyone to drink alcoholic beverages in a vehicle. The driver and passengers may be issued a traffic citation.
It is illegal to have alcohol in the passenger area of a vehicle where the container has been opened.
Opened is the whole test, not how much is left. An opened bottle belongs in the trunk.
It is illegal to have alcohol in the passenger area of a vehicle if the container has been opened.
It is illegal to operate a motorboat under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating compounds, and driving privileges may be lost for refusing chemical testing after a motorboat crash with injuries.
A boat is not a car, and the penalty still lands on the driver’s license. That surprises people every summer.
Individuals involved in a motorboat crash where injuries or death occur may lose their driving privileges for refusing to submit to chemical testing to determine their BAC.
It is illegal for a parent or legal guardian to let anyone under 21 drink alcohol, or to fail to control access to it, on property under their control including a vehicle or watercraft.
The offense is letting it happen, not pouring the drink. A parent who looks away is inside the law here.
It is illegal for a parent or legal guardian to allow persons under age 21 to consume alcoholic beverages or to fail to control access to alcohol on their private property or on any property under their control, including a vehicle or water craft.
On the test
Which of these makes an Illinois DUI an Aggravated DUI?
Driving under the influence without valid insurance. Aggravated DUI is the same drinking with worse circumstances around it. Any one of the listed facts is enough. Illinois Rules of the Road 2026, p.51: “Are involved in a death or personal injury crash while driving under the influence. • Have received a third or subsequent DUI. • Committed DUI while driving a school bus with children or operating a vehicle for hire, such as a limousine. • Committed DUI without a valid driver’s license, permit, or vehicle insurance. • Received a DUI after a previous history of reckless homicide or Aggravated DUI involving a death.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
