Signs by picture — Illinois Permit Test
Signs by picture on the Illinois permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
The sign that tells a driver they are not allowed to enter a roadway is posted on one-way streets and at expressway ramps being entered in the wrong direction.
The exam asks you to pick the sign, not read about it, so the picture has to be the thing you know.
Do Not Enter This sign is posted on one-way streets and other roadways where you are not allowed to enter. You may see this sign if attempting to enter an expressway ramp in the wrong direction.
The sign that tells a driver their vehicle is traveling in the wrong direction is seen on expressway ramps a short distance past the DO NOT ENTER sign.
It is the second warning on a ramp, after the one at the entrance, so knowing it by sight is what stops a head-on crash.
Wrong Way This sign tells you that your vehicle is traveling in the wrong direction. You will see this sign on expressway ramps a short distance past the DO NOT ENTER sign.
The sign posted on one-way streets and driveways tells a driver to go only in the direction of its arrow.
A driver who cannot pick this sign out from the others will find out which street was one-way by meeting the traffic on it.
One-Way These signs are used on one-way streets or driveways. You must always go only in the direction of the arrow.
The sign that tells a driver which side of a traffic island, median or obstruction to drive on shows an arrow curving past a shape in the road.
The island is coming up either way; the sign is what settles which side of it you meet it on.
Keep Right This sign tells you where to drive when approaching traffic islands, medians, or other obstructions in the middle of the roadway. You must drive to the side indicated by the arrow.
On the test
Which of these signs tells a driver they are not allowed to enter?
The DO NOT ENTER sign. The exam asks you to pick the sign, not read about it, so the picture has to be the thing you know. Illinois Rules of the Road 2026, p.65: “Do Not Enter This sign is posted on one-way streets and other roadways where you are not allowed to enter. You may see this sign if attempting to enter an expressway ramp in the wrong direction.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
