Uninsured motorists — Maine Permit Test
Uninsured motorists on the Maine permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
In Maine, an uninsured motorist who causes injury or property damage of $1000 or more may not drive until proof of financial responsibility or proper insurance has been shown.
Without this, a driver who caused a costly crash could keep driving uninsured and cause another.
If an uninsured motorist causes an injury or property damage of $1000 or more, they may not operate a vehicle until proof of financial responsibility or proper insurance have been shown.
If a court judgment is obtained against an uninsured motorist, their driving and registration privileges are suspended until the judgment is satisfied.
Without it, the person who was hurt could win in court and still never be paid.
In addition, if a court judgment is obtained, driving and registration privileges are suspended until such judgment is satisfied.
By law, every automobile liability policy written in Maine includes uninsured motorist coverage, which protects the insured for bodily injury damages.
If you are hurt by a driver with no insurance, this coverage is what pays your medical bills.
By law, all automobile liability policies written in Maine include "uninsured motorist" coverage.
A Maine driver who cannot get insurance through regular channels can obtain coverage through the Maine Automobile Insurance Plan, in which every insurer selling auto insurance in Maine must take part.
A driver with a bad record would otherwise have no legal way to get on the road at all.
Any individual unable to procure insurance coverage through regular channels for whatever reasons can obtain coverage through the Maine Automobile Insurance Plan.
On the test
An uninsured driver causes a crash. At what amount of injury or property damage may they not drive until they show proof of insurance?
$1000 or more. Without this, a driver who caused a costly crash could keep driving uninsured and cause another. Maine Driver’s License Manual, p.19: “If an uninsured motorist causes an injury or property damage of $1000 or more, they may not operate a vehicle until proof of financial responsibility or proper insurance have been shown.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
