Instruction permit supervising driver — North Dakota Permit Test
Instruction permit supervising driver on the North Dakota permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
When you drive on a North Dakota instruction permit, the person beside you must hold a valid license for that class of vehicle, be at least 18, and have at least 3 years of driving experience.
A new driver makes mistakes nobody can predict, and the person beside them needs the age and years behind the wheel to catch them.
a person with a valid license for the class of vehicle being driven, who is at least 18 years of age and has had at least three years of driving experience, must ride in the seat beside you.
The supervising driver for a North Dakota permit holder must have at least 3 years of driving experience.
Someone who only just learned to drive is still learning to spot danger and cannot reliably coach another beginner.
a person with a valid license for the class of vehicle being driven, who is at least 18 years of age and has had at least three years of driving experience, must ride in the seat beside you.
No one other than the supervising driver and the permit holder may sit in the front seat, unless the vehicle has only a front seat, in which case the supervising driver sits next to the permit holder.
The supervisor has to be close enough to reach the wheel or speak up at once, with nobody between them and the new driver.
An individual other than the supervising driver and the permit holder may not be in the front seat unless the vehicle has only a front seat, in which case, the supervising driver must be seated next to the permit holder.
On the test
How old must the supervising driver beside a North Dakota permit holder be?
At least 18. A new driver makes mistakes nobody can predict, and the person beside them needs the age and years behind the wheel to catch them. North Dakota Noncommercial Driver License Manual, p.3: “a person with a valid license for the class of vehicle being driven, who is at least 18 years of age and has had at least three years of driving experience, must ride in the seat beside you.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
