School bus stopping — Oklahoma Permit Test
School bus stopping on the Oklahoma permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
If you approach a school or church bus with flashing red lights or showing a red STOP sign, children are getting on or off and you must stop.
Children crossing to or from a bus are hidden by it and may run out without looking.
If you approach a bus with flashing red lights and/or showing a red “STOP” sign, it means that children are getting on or off the bus and you must stop.
After stopping for a school bus, remain stopped until the bus starts moving, the driver motions you on, or the red flashing lights go off or the sign is pulled back.
The last child off the bus may still be crossing, and the bus driver can see that when you cannot.
You must stop and remain stopped until—
You don't have to stop for a school bus that is on a different roadway, or one stopped in a loading zone by a controlled-access highway where pedestrians are not allowed to cross.
Where children cannot cross your road, your car is not in their path, and stopping would only risk a rear-end crash.
the bus is on a different roadway, OR
On a divided highway, approaching traffic is not required to stop for a school bus.
The median keeps children from crossing to the far side, so oncoming lanes are not in their path.
Approaching traffic not required to stop for School Bus on a divided highway
Failing to stop for a school bus with red loading or unloading lights flashing brings mandatory revocation of your driver license for 1 year.
A driver who passes a loading bus is one step from killing a child, so the law takes the license away outright.
It is mandatory revocation of driver license for one year for failing to stop for a school bus with red loading/unloading lights flashing.
On the test
You approach a stopped church bus with its red lights flashing. What must you do?
Stop and stay stopped. Children crossing to or from a bus are hidden by it and may run out without looking. Oklahoma Driver Manual, p.30: “If you approach a bus with flashing red lights and/or showing a red “STOP” sign, it means that children are getting on or off the bus and you must stop.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
