Alcohol restricted driver — Utah Permit Test

Alcohol restricted driver on the Utah permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A Utah driver whose privilege is acted against for an alcohol-related offense is placed under alcohol-restricted status for 2, 3, 5, or 10 years, depending on the number and type of offenses.

Alcohol-restricted means no alcohol in the body at all while driving, for years after the license is back.

the driver is placed under an alcohol-restricted status for 2, 3, 5, or 10 years, depending on the number and type of offenses

Utah Driver Handbook 2026-2027, p.53

A lifetime alcohol-restricted status results when a Utah driver is convicted of automobile homicide or a felony DUI.

Two offenses carry it for life. After either of them there is never a lawful drink before driving again.

A lifetime alcohol-restricted status will result when a driver is convicted of automobile homicide or a felony DUI.

Utah Driver Handbook 2026-2027, p.53

A Utah driver convicted of driving with any measurable amount of alcohol during an alcohol-restricted period has their license revoked for one year.

The restriction has teeth of its own. Breaking it is a fresh revocation on top of whatever came before.

if convicted of driving with any measurable amount of alcohol during the alcohol-restricted period, the driver license will be revoked for one year

Utah Driver Handbook 2026-2027, p.53

Once a Utah driver reinstates after an alcohol offense they hold full driving privileges, but the alcohol-restricted status runs from the effective date of the original suspension or revocation.

Getting the license back does not start the clock. It has been running since the day the license was taken.

the alcohol-restricted status remains in effect for a 2, 3, 5, or 10-year period or lifetime from the effective date of the original suspension or revocation action

On the test

What is the shortest Utah alcohol-restricted status period?

2 years. Alcohol-restricted means no alcohol in the body at all while driving, for years after the license is back. Utah Driver Handbook 2026-2027, p.53: “the driver is placed under an alcohol-restricted status for 2, 3, 5, or 10 years, depending on the number and type of offenses”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
