Voluntary contributions — Utah Permit Test
Voluntary contributions on the Utah permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A Utah resident may make a voluntary contribution of $2.00 for vision screening when applying for or renewing a vehicle registration, driver license, driving privilege card, or identification card.
It is added at the counter and it is optional, which is why a driver should know what they are agreeing to.
Utah residents may make a voluntary contribution of $2.00 for vision screening when applying for a vehicle registration, a driver license, a driving privilege card, an identification card, or a renewal of any of the four.
A Utah resident may contribute $1.00 to the Out and About Homebound Transportation Assistance Fund when applying for or renewing a driver license or identification card.
A dollar at the counter pays for transport for seniors and people with disabilities who cannot drive at all.

Utah voluntary contributions are not part of the driver license, driving privilege card, identification card, or vehicle registration fees.
They are separate and optional. Knowing that is what lets somebody say no without wondering if they are breaking a rule.

On the test
How much is the Utah voluntary contribution for vision screening?
$2.00. It is added at the counter and it is optional, which is why a driver should know what they are agreeing to. Utah Driver Handbook 2026-2027, p.95: “Utah residents may make a voluntary contribution of $2.00 for vision screening when applying for a vehicle registration, a driver license, a driving privilege card, an identification card, or a renewal of any of the four.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
