Lane use signs — Wyoming Permit Test

Lane use signs on the Wyoming permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

In Wyoming, when an overhead lane sign says ONLY, you must go the way its arrow points; there is no other choice.

Lanes marked ONLY feed traffic one way, so a driver who goes straight from a turn lane cuts across cars that are turning.

When the word “ONLY” is used, you must go in the direction the arrow points; there is no other option.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63

Arrows painted on the road mean the same thing as the arrows on overhead lane signs.

When an overhead sign is hidden behind a truck, the arrow on the pavement still tells you which way your lane must go.

Arrows painted on the roadway and arrows on the overhead signs have the same meaning.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63

A lane-use sign showing a left arrow and a straight arrow with ONLY means you may turn left or go straight, but a right turn is prohibited.

Cars beside you expect your lane to go left or straight, so turning right from it would cross their path.

Either turn left or proceed straight ahead. Right turn is prohibited.

On the test

An overhead lane sign shows an arrow with the word ONLY. What does it require?

You may only go where the arrow points. Lanes marked ONLY feed traffic one way, so a driver who goes straight from a turn lane cuts across cars that are turning. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63: “When the word “ONLY” is used, you must go in the direction the arrow points; there is no other option.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
