Use of lanes — Wyoming Permit Test

Use of lanes on the Wyoming permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

On a two-lane road with one lane each way, Wyoming requires you to drive on the right and yield the left half of the road to oncoming traffic.

The left half belongs to cars coming toward you; drifting into it is how head-on crashes start.

On a two-lane road (one lane going in each direction) you are required to drive on the right side and to yield the left half of the roadway to oncoming traffic.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63

On multilane roads, drive in the lane with the smoothest flow of traffic; it helps you keep a safe space cushion and saves gas.

Fewer sudden stops and lane changes leave more room around you and waste less fuel.

On multilane roads, drive in the lane that has the smoothest flow of traffic.

When a road has three or more lanes going one direction, the middle lane or lanes usually have the smoothest flow.

The middle lanes avoid both the fast passers on the left and the cars entering, exiting and turning on the right.

When there are three or more lanes going in one direction, the middle lane or lanes are usually the smoothest.

The left lane is for drivers who want to go faster, pass or turn left; slower drivers and those turning right use the right lane.

Keeping slow traffic right lets faster cars pass without weaving around you.

Slower drivers and those turning right use the right lane.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63

On a road with two lanes going one direction, the right lane usually has the smoothest flow, but where there are special left-turn lanes the left lane may flow more smoothly.

Knowing where traffic moves best lets you avoid lanes full of stopping and turning cars.

If the road has two lanes going in one direction, the right lane usually has the smoothest flow of traffic.

On the test

On a two-lane road with one lane in each direction, what are you required to do?

Drive on the right and yield the left half. The left half belongs to cars coming toward you; drifting into it is how head-on crashes start. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63: “On a two-lane road (one lane going in each direction) you are required to drive on the right side and to yield the left half of the roadway to oncoming traffic.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
