Pavement line colors — Wyoming Permit Test
Pavement line colors on the Wyoming permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
White lines separate traffic going the same direction.
A white line tells you the car on its other side is moving with you, not toward you.
White lines separate traffic going the same direction.
Yellow lines separate traffic flowing in opposite directions.
Crossing a yellow line puts you in the path of cars coming at you, so it warns you of head-on danger.
Yellow lines separate traffic flowing in opposite directions.
Broken lines mean passing or changing lanes is permitted if the way is clear.
A broken line marks a stretch where you can see far enough to move over safely, but only if nobody is there.
Broken lines indicate passing or lane changing is permitted if the way is clear.
A solid white line means passing or changing lanes is hazardous.
Solid white lines are painted near exits, intersections and merges, where a late lane change cuts off other cars.
Solid white lines indicate that passing or lane changing is hazardous.
A solid yellow line means no passing or lane changing, except to make a left turn into or from an alley, private road or driveway.
Solid yellow lines mark places where you cannot see oncoming cars in time, but you still need a way to reach a driveway.
Solid yellow lines indicate no passing or lane changing — unless making a left turn into or from an alley, private road or driveway.
When the solid yellow line is on your side of the center line, you cannot pass.
The solid line is painted on your side because you cannot see far enough ahead to pass safely there.
With a solid yellow line in your lane Car A cannot pass.
When the solid yellow line is only on the oncoming side and your side is broken, you may pass if the way is clear.
Each driver obeys the line nearest them, because each side has a different view of the road ahead.
With a solid yellow line in oncoming lane Car A may pass if way is clear.
On the test
What do white lines on the road separate?
Traffic going the same direction. A white line tells you the car on its other side is moving with you, not toward you. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.63: “White lines separate traffic going the same direction.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
