Sharing with motorcycles — Wyoming Permit Test
Sharing with motorcycles on the Wyoming permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Motorcyclists have the same rights and responsibilities on public roads as other users.
A rider has as much right to a lane as you do, and treating them as less is how drivers crowd them.
Motorcyclists have the same rights and responsibilities on public roads as other users.
Drivers turning left in front of an oncoming motorcycle cause a large share of car-cycle crashes; look and look again, and know the motorcycle's speed before turning.
A motorcycle is small and hard to judge for distance and speed, so it is closer and faster than it looks.
The correct procedure is to look and look again.
Turn signals do not turn off automatically on most motorcycles, so before pulling out in front of one, be sure the rider is really turning.
A rider may have forgotten a blinking signal and keep coming straight at you.
Turn signals do not turn off automatically on most motorcycles.
Motorcycles are entitled to the full width of a lane; never move into the same lane alongside a motorcycle, even if the lane is wide.
Riders shift in the lane to see and avoid debris, and sharing their lane boxes you both in with no way out.
Never move into the same lane alongside a motorcycle, even if the lane is wide and the cyclist is riding far to one side.
No more than two motorcycles may ride side by side in the same lane, and only with the consent of both riders.
Two riders who agree to it can plan their spacing; a third would leave nobody any room to move.
No more than two motorcycles may be driven abreast in the same lane and must be by consent of both motorcycle drivers.
A motorcycle may not pass any vehicle in the same lane, except another motorcycle.
Squeezing past a car in its own lane leaves the rider no room if the car drifts over.
A motorcycle shall not overtake and pass any vehicle in the same lane, except another motorcycle.
Railroad grade crossings, metal or grated bridges, grooved pavement, crosswinds and slippery surfaces can be hazardous to motorcyclists, so expect quick changes in their speed or direction.
Two narrow tires can slip on rails or steel grates that a car rolls over without a wobble.
Bad weather, slippery surfaces, crosswinds, road conditions, railroad grade crossings, metal or grated bridges, and grooved pavement can be hazardous to motorcyclists.
On the test
What rights do motorcyclists have on public roads?
The same as other road users. A rider has as much right to a lane as you do, and treating them as less is how drivers crowd them. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.69: “Motorcyclists have the same rights and responsibilities on public roads as other users.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
