License suspensions — Utah Permit Test
License suspensions on the Utah permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A Utah driving privilege may be suspended for as long as two years, or until the driver’s 21st birthday.
Two years is the ceiling for a suspension, and for a young driver the clock can run to an age instead.
Your driving privilege will result in a mandatory suspension and may be suspended for as long as two years or until your 21st birthday for any of the following:
A Utah license is suspended where the driver caused or contributed to a crash by reckless or unlawful conduct in which somebody was injured or killed, or which resulted in serious property damage.
A crash caused by breaking the rules costs the license on top of everything the crash itself costs.
You have caused or contributed to a crash by reckless or unlawful conduct in which someone was injured or killed or which resulted in serious property damage.
A Utah license is suspended where the driver failed to appear in court for a traffic violation, or failed to satisfy fees, fines, or restitution to the court on any criminal charge.
Ignoring a court date takes the license even where the original ticket would not have. The court has that lever and uses it.
As a Utah driver, you failed to appear in court for a traffic violation when it occurred in Utah or a Non-Resident Violator Compact member state, or you were unable to satisfy fees, fines, or restitution to the court on any criminal charge.
A Utah license is suspended for failure to pay child support.
This has nothing to do with driving, and it is one of the commonest reasons a license is suspended in the state.
You failed to pay child support.
A Utah license is suspended where a driver convicted of a violation related to approaching an emergency vehicle fails to complete a four-hour live classroom course on driving safety.
The conviction alone does not take the license. Skipping the course afterwards does.
You have been convicted for a violation related to approaching an emergency vehicle and have failed to complete a four-hour live classroom course on driving safety offered by an approved entity.
A Utah license is suspended where a driver under 21 used false or improper proof of age to obtain or consume alcohol or gain admittance to a bar.
A fake identification card costs a young driver the real one, without any driving being involved at all.
You are under the age of 21 and have used false or improper proof of age to obtain or consume alcohol or gain admittance to a bar.
A Utah license is suspended where the driver operated a vehicle, or allowed a registered vehicle to be operated, without required insurance or proof of financial responsibility.
Lending the car to somebody uninsured reaches your license as well as theirs.
You operated a vehicle or allowed a registered vehicle to be operated without required insurance or proof of financial responsibility.
On the test
How long may a Utah suspension last?
Up to two years. Two years is the ceiling for a suspension, and for a young driver the clock can run to an age instead. Utah Driver Handbook 2026-2027, p.70: “Your driving privilege will result in a mandatory suspension and may be suspended for as long as two years or until your 21st birthday for any of the following:”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
